Lead Counsel, Security, APAC Lead Counsel, Security, APAC with verification
We are seeking a talented, dedicated, and highly motivated Lead Counsel to work on Meta’s Security Legal team, with a particular emphasis on India. The role requires the ability to work both independently as well as effectively with large multi-stakeholder cross-functional teams. This is a full-time position based in India.
Lead Counsel, Security, APAC Responsibilities:
Provide advice and support the processing of legal requests for user data, and manage the litigation of matters implicating user data disclosure in criminal matters
Provide subject matter advice related to protecting our employees and assets (physical safety and legal security)
Develop strategic approaches to managing regulatory, criminal and policy legal risks and resolving disputes
Identify and advise business and product partners on legal obligations globally relating to data collection, preservation, and disclosure, and platform safety and integrity, including child safety and other serious crimes
Support and advise cross-functional teams in implementing, testing, and evaluating safety and integrity compliance controls
Work closely and creatively with cross-functional teams, including Legal, Policy, Communications, Engineering, and Business Operations in reviewing and addressing governmental regulations, agency guidelines, policies, including government requests for user data
Willingness to work off-hours and overtime, including weekends and occasionally on holidays, in order to support emergency matters and interact with globally-based company employees
Minimum Qualifications:
Resident in India
Law degree
5+ years of legal experience, including government, in-house and/or law firm experience advising technology or telecommunications companies on Indian law (or on issues of similar complexity or relevance)
Experience strategically managing and handling contentious Indian regulatory issues and/or criminal matters
Experience working with cross-functional teams and influencing stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
Team player who builds effective relationships and works well with others
Ability to think strategically to solve legal challenges with attention to detail
Ability to communicate and present effectively to diverse audiences
Positive attitude and flexible mindset
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience providing counsel on India’s 2021 Information Technology (IT) Rules
Experience regionally on issues pertaining to data collection, protection, and disclosure and analogous international laws
Experience providing guidance to providers in responding to law enforcement requests or criminal matters
Experience with criminal litigation
Experience with Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty requests, Letters Rogatory, or other forms of international cooperation
Regional experience engaging with regulators and legislators on regulatory, safety and security matters preferred
Experience assessing, analyzing, and resolving multiple risk management-related issues and challenges while meeting tight deadlines
Experience with applicable regulatory compliance requirements and spotting emerging trends and “hot issues”
Experience and knowledge of telecommunication regulatory frameworks desirable but not essential
Experience with U.S. law, including the Stored Communications Act, Wiretap Act, Pen Register/Trap and Trace Statute
