In-House Patent Attorney
Location: Remote (anywhere in India)
Experience: 6-12 years
Key Responsibilities:
Patent Preparation and Prosecution:
Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications in the UK/ US/ EU.
Conduct thorough patentability assessments and provide strategic advice on patent portfolios.
Manage the full patent lifecycle, from initial filing to grant and beyond.
Handle responses to office actions and communicate with patent examiners.
Client and Stakeholder Engagement:
Collaborate with inventors, researchers, and engineers to understand innovative concepts and translate them into patent applications.
Advise internal teams on patent strategy and portfolio management to align with business goals.
Conduct patent landscape analyses and freedom-to-operate searches.
Legal Compliance and Documentation:
Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations in the UK, US, and EU.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all patent activities and communications.
Draft and review agreements related to IP, such as licenses and assignments.
Technical Expertise:
Leverage expertise in software and mechatronics to understand and protect complex inventions.
Stay updated on technological advancements and their implications for patent law.
Training and Mentorship:
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior attorneys and patent agents.
Conduct training sessions on patent law and related topics for internal teams.
Qualifications and Skills
Education:
A degree in Law (LL.B or equivalent) and a technical degree (B.Sc, M.Sc, or Ph.D.) in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
Admission to practice before the relevant patent office(s) in the UK, US, or EU.
Experience:
6-12 years of experience in patent law, with a strong focus on software and mechatronics.
Proven track record of managing patent portfolios and successfully prosecuting patents in the UK, US, and EU.
Technical Proficiency:
In-depth understanding of software and mechatronics technologies.
Ability to quickly grasp new technical concepts and convey them in legal terms.
Communication and Analytical Skills Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong ability to articulate complex technical information clearly and persuasively.
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Keen attention to detail and the ability to think strategically about intellectual property issues.
