Head - Legal Head - Legal

Role, in brief:

The Legal Head will be responsible for drafting, negotiating, and managing contracts/agreements with clients and partners in the telecom, music, DTH, digital, e-commerce, OTT, media, and entertainment sectors, including potential new businesses in new sectors, both in India and internationally. S(He) will provide legal guidance, ensure regulatory compliance, handle litigation matters, and advise on employee contracts/disputes.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Contract Management and Negotiations:

- Draft, review, and negotiate various contracts, agreements, and legal documents related to the company's businesses in the telecom, music, and DTH, Mobile OEM sectors, both in India and internationally.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business units, product teams, and stakeholders, to ensure legal compliance and protect the company's interests.

- Manage contract lifecycle, including drafting, negotiation, execution, and ongoing monitoring of contractual obligations.

- Provide legal guidance and advisory services to various business units on contractual matters, risks, and mitigation strategies.

2. Litigation Management (Limited):

- Oversee and manage limited litigation matters, if any, in coordination with external legal counsel.

- Provide legal support and guidance to the company in case of disputes or legal proceedings.

- Represent the company in legal forums, as necessary, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

3. Employee Contracts and Disputes:

- Draft and review employment contracts, non-disclosure agreements, and other legal documents related to employee relationships.

- Advise on employee-related legal matters, such as disputes, terminations, and compliance with labour laws.

- Collaborate with the Human Resources department to ensure compliance with employment regulations and best practices.

4. Regulatory Compliance:

- Monitor and ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards in the digital, e-commerce, OTT, media, and entertainment sectors.

- Stay updated on legal and regulatory changes and provide guidance to the organization on their implications.

- Collaborate with relevant departments to implement necessary measures for regulatory compliance.

5. Team Management:

- Lead and manage a team of legal professionals.

- Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to team members to enhance their legal skills and knowledge.

- Ensure efficient workflow and resource allocation within the legal department.

6. Reporting and Stakeholder Management:

- Report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on legal matters, risks, and strategic initiatives.

- Collaborate and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders, including C-level executives, functional heads, and external legal counsel.

7. Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Copyright Management:

- Oversee and manage the company's intellectual property portfolio, including trademarks, copyrights, patents, and trade secrets.

- Monitor and enforce the company's intellectual property rights against infringement or unauthorized use.

- Advise on licensing agreements, royalty arrangements, and other IPR-related matters.

- Ensure compliance with applicable intellectual property laws and regulations.

Qualifications and Skills:

Education:

- Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized university is mandatory.

- Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) would be a plus.

- Additional qualification as a Company Secretary is desirable.

Experience:

- Minimum of 12 years of relevant post-qualification experience in legal practice, preferably in the digital, e-commerce, OTT, media and entertainment sectors.

Skills:

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex legal concepts effectively.

- Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to legal matters.

- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.

- Proficient in legal research, analysis, and interpretation of laws and regulations.

- Proven leadership and team management abilities.

- High level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism.
