Overview

At Maersk, we are looking for a tech savvy lawyer with experience (or interest) in data privacy laws. This is an excellent opportunity be a part of the global legal team that handles data privacy matters. In this role, you will act as the go-to person for handling the data mapping software/tool, monitor data processing activities, reviewing data processing agreements, perform risk assessments and audits etc.

You will serve as a dependable legal partner to internal stakeholders such as tech teams, product & platform owners, cyber security team, procurement teams, regional legal teams across the globe. You will work to facilitate business growth with a compliance-centric mindset and protect the company's values, interests, and reputation at the same time.

The potential candidate must possess knowledge and understanding of the evolving data protection legislations in India and globally, which is crucial to this role along with experience in using different data privacy software/tools.

Minimum Qualification

Qualified lawyer licensed to practice in India with a bachelor’s degree in law (5 years integrated LLB) preferably from a reputed institution, master’s degree is a plus.

1-2 years PQE, previously worked as an in-house legal counsel with a multinational corporation or from a reputed law firm in data privacy practice.

Prior experience in data privacy compliance and data processing contracts preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

Handle data mapping processes (ROPAs, Asset mapping, Vendor mappings etc., perform regular data processing impact assessments of operational processes,

Identifying, and mitigating risks across the company through effective tools, training and guidance, collaborate with product development teams, legal, compliance and governance teams.

Work to align with advanced technologies and Privacy by Design principles from the initial stages of development and ensure that the data use meets established regulatory compliance needs.

Identify areas of improvement in local practices relative to managing data privacy.

Guide the development of new privacy products and features.

Drafting, reviewing & negotiating data protection agreements and handling privacy-related RFP/RFI questionnaires,

Monitor data privacy legislations across the globe, track upcoming / evolving regulations and transform these requirements into practical guidance, publish newsletters.

Respond to data subject requests from customers, employees etc.

Support the team on other projects as and when required.

Soft Skills

Solid understanding of data privacy principles, knowledge of data privacy laws & regulations and best industry practices,

Possess compliance mindset and approach to towards matters.

Experience using data mapping applications and other tools used internally by the company for compliance.

Good stakeholder management skills, with the ability to successfully navigate through a complex organisation matrix and ability to operate in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.

Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to represent Maersk on data privacy and security issues with external stakeholders,

Team player- flexible, active listener, collaborative and positive attitude.

Strong integrity and high ethical standards.
