Job Purpose

To lead the legal department, manage all legal concerns of the organization, provide legal counsel to various departments, represent the company in legal processes, mitigate legal risks, and effectively manage litigation.

Principal Accountabilities

1. Managing Litigations and ComplianceHandle cases related to Civil, Industrial, Commercial, Criminal, Environmental,

Mining, Labour, Property, and Land Law matters.

-

Collaborate with external counsels, solicitors, state and central authorities.

-

Handle vendor and third-party supplier disputes.

-

Deal independently with advocates, solicitor firms, and statutory authorities.

-

Ensure compliance with statutory requirements under various Acts, especially

environmental, mining, industrial, labor laws, and tax statutes.

-

Conduct and appear in adjudication, arbitration, conciliation, domestic inquiry

proceedings, and legal cases, including land acquisition and mining matters,

labor cases in courts/tribunals, and various statutory authorities.

-

Provide legal opinions and advice, handle labor disputes, property disputes,

and various commercial disputes, and engage and brief counsels.

-

Draft and vet MoUs, LoIs, contracts/agreements, pleadings, affidavits, and

other legal documents.

-

Anticipate and evaluate risk factors and suggest mitigation steps to safeguard

business interests.

2. Profitability

Reduce and optimize legal expenses.

-

Generate new ideas resulting in P&L gains.

-

Contribute to the P&L through strategic initiatives.

3. Strategic Initiatives

-

Promote business initiatives through strategic and operational legal and land

support.

-

Deliver on functional performance metrics-based legal scorecard.

4. Litigation Management

-

Effectively manage litigation and align with business goals.

-

Implement initiatives like litigation reduction.

-

Promote system/technology-driven controls and monitoring.

-

Monitor key litigations and ensure timely resolution.

5. Automation

-

Ensure efficient implementation of SOPs.

-

Monitor critical issues to ensure timely resolution.

-

Adhere to SOPs and resolve contractual or commercial disputes quickly.

6. People Development

-

Build a skilled team and talent pipeline for sustained growth.

-

Develop a second line of command by identifying and grooming high-potential

individuals.

-

Develop a skill matrix and identify gaps.

-

Plan and impart training as per skill gaps.

7. Legal Awareness

-

Organize training on all applicable laws and policies to increase regulatory

awareness.

Educational

Qualifications and Experience: - Graduate in LLB - 16 - 20 years of experience
