We recognize that our people are our strength and the diverse talents they bring to our global workforce are directly linked to our success. We do not discriminate on the basis of any protected attribute, including race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, marital or veteran status, pregnancy or disability, or any other basis protected under applicable law. In accordance with applicable law, we make reasonable accommodations for applicants’ and employees’ religious practices and beliefs, as well as any mental health or physical disability needs.
The J.P. Morgan Chase Legal Department is responsible for providing legal services to the Corporation and is organized by practice groups that generally align with the Corporation’s lines of business and corporate staff areas. This structure encourages legal teams, businesses and staff areas to discuss legal, regulatory, and business developments effectively and in a timely manner.
About the Office of Legal Obligations. The firm is seeking talented candidates for a position in the Legal Department as Legal Counsel in the Office of Legal Obligations (OLO). OLO is a global firmwide program responsible for developing and executing a sustainable infrastructure and process that (i) documents J.P. Morgan Chase’s obligations arising from material laws, regulations, and rules, and (ii) connects the obligations to policies, when applicable, as well as to procedures or other documentation that support compliance with those laws, regulations, and rules.
The overall OLO program goal is to improve the control environment regarding the laws and regulations of the firm. The program helps allow the firm to trace end-to-end connections between laws, regulations, rules, and policies and procedures.
For the program, J.P. Morgan requires lawyers with a regulatory awareness and background who are able to understand the risks to the lines of business and the firm of non-compliance with laws, regulations, and rules. The successful candidate will join a quality assurance team of lawyers and other professionals, known as the OLO Legal “Red Team,” that is responsible for evaluating the completeness, accuracy, and consistency of the OLO’s inventory of legal obligations, as well as JPMC’s efforts to monitor for legal and regulatory developments that affect those obligations. This role requires engagement with external counsel and possible cross-functional collaboration with professionals in JPMC’s lines of business and corporate functions. The environment is fast-paced, often requiring that issues be addressed quickly to ensure that JPMC stays in compliance with the rapidly-evolving rules that apply to our highly regulated industry. The successful candidate must have strong analytical and collaborative skills, be able to work independently, and be a true “self-starter.”
Primary Responsibilities Will Include
Conduct quality assurance reviews to evaluate the comprehensiveness and substantive accuracy of the OLO’s inventory of legal obligations in Asia Pacific (APAC) countries, and JPMC’s efforts to monitor for legal and regulatory developments affecting those obligations.
Perform legal research and analysis of laws, rules, and regulations in APAC countries.
Instruct and liaise with external counsel, as required, on the review and analysis of legal obligations and the underlying laws, rules, and regulations.
Assist with the development of processes and procedures for quality assurance reviews.
With support from business analysts on the broader OLO Legal team, create/enhance tools to track and manage quality assurance recommendations and other Red Team projects.
Attend and participate at internal meetings related to the OLO both in the APAC region as well as globally.
Provide occasional research to support special projects as needed.
Qualifications
Licensed attorney with at least 3 - 6 years of post-qualification experience practicing law.
Attorney candidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment.
All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment.
