You are responsible for the company’s legal activities in a region, business units and /or sub-function areas in the country or across multiple countries. To support commercial and corporate initiatives, you identify business needs and design and implement our legal strategy through the service delivery model. You advise the business on risk, anticipating and addressing internal and external factors and apply your legal specialty area experience to collaborate with other legal colleagues to address legal issues or concerns.

We are seeking a seasoned legal professional to join our team as the Head Legal – Corporate Functions. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all legal aspects related to our corporate functions, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, providing strategic legal advice, and managing a team of legal professionals. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in corporate law, a proven track record of leadership, and excellent communication skills.

How You Will Contribute

You will lead the development and implementation of legal strategies at Mondelēz International to support competitive operations, safeguard our personnel, assets, and reputation, and uphold compliance with legal standards and ethical norms. Your role includes offering counsel to ensure managers make informed decisions on legal risks, overseeing legal strategy with external counsel to manage expenditures while mitigating financial and reputational risks. You will leverage internal and external legal expertise to navigate intricate legal landscapes, collaborating closely with business units, regional teams, and global stakeholders to interpret and advise on pertinent laws and regulatory updates across various countries or regions.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and manage the legal team responsible for corporate functions, including corporate governance, compliance, contracts, and regulatory matters.

Provide expert legal advice and support to senior management and other departments on corporate legal issues.

Develop and implement legal strategies to mitigate risk and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Review and negotiate complex agreements, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, partnerships, and other corporate transactions.

Monitor changes in relevant laws and regulations and advise on potential impact to the organization.

Collaborate with external counsel as needed and manage legal budgets effectively.

Oversee corporate governance matters, including board meetings, minutes, resolutions, and filings.

Conduct internal investigations and handle legal disputes and litigation when necessary.

Develop and implement legal policies and procedures to promote best practices and ensure legal compliance across the organization.

Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to the legal team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Legal experience, ideally in a large matrixed multinational company

Proven leadership experience, with the ability to effectively manage and develop a team of legal professionals.

Strong analytical, strategic vision, decision-making, and problem-solving skills

Experience assessing, advising on risk, advising/coaching and dispute resolution in a multinational company

Highest level of integrity and trust; highly credible and willing to expressExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with senior management and stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.Resourcefulness, including relevant new technologies and systems

License to practice law in relevant jurisdiction(s)

More About This Role

The Head Legal – Corporate Functions India is a Senior Legal Counsel and reports to the Chief Counsel, Indiain a team of 9 lawyers and is responsible for delivery of legal support across any or all functions of the India Business Unit (BU).

The Senior Counsel is a progressive, forward-thinking partner who provides strategic thought leadership and superior support to the India Business and is part of the Extended Leadership Council (ELC) of the Company.

The role requires an elevated level of business orientation with focus on problem-solving and supporting major projects while upholding strong ethics and integrity across the organization.

The Senior Counsel is charged with providing high-quality and responsive legal support and guidance to the India BU as part of the Legal team, as well as in developing strategy for the department; establishing collaborative relationships with colleagues both within and outside the local business; and managing external legal resources within budgets as guided by the Chief Counsel.

Junior members of the Legal Team report into this role and the incumbent is expected to mentor and coach these members of the Legal team.
