We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Legal Counsel.
Principal Accountabilities
Provide legal support to the GTRF(Global Trade & Receivables Finance) business on transactions.
Ensure transaction documentation, for which the jobholder is responsible, adheres to GTRF policies and procedures, to manage legal risk.
Use agreed channels to escalate matters where necessary to ensure the business receives timely and appropriate legal support.
Ensure timely escalation to, as appropriate, local GTRF Legal and Global GTRF Legal including Senior Legal Counsel – Head of GTRF GLS(Global Legal Services) on any issues or complex / protracted matters.
Ensure Global CMB(Commercial Banking) Legal management, including Deputy GC(General Counsel) GTRF are fully briefed on major issues arising in relevant business area and major legislative changes in area of expertise.
As a team lead, create and maintain a motivating working environment for the team. Maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with all team members within Global CMB(Commercial Banking) Legal, Wholesale lawyers globally and business departments for which the jobholder is responsible.
Comply with legal risk management requirements set out in the Group Standards Manual and Legal FIM(Functional Instruction Manual). Comply with regulatory and compliance matters and the management of operational risk.
The jobholder is responsible for providing legal advice against the backdrop of both the external legal framework and the internal Group Standards Manual and the Legal FIM(Functional Instruction Manual); and assisting Global Commercial Banking and specifically the GTRF business to manage legal risks associated with its transactions.
Requirements
Qualifications - External
Qualified lawyer (common law jurisdiction preferable) with a minimum of 12 years’ post qualification banking and finance law experience.
Strong understanding of domestic banking and finance law and transactions. Trade finance experience preferred but not required.
Strong people management experience, with an ability to motivate others and create a collaborative team environment.
Knowledge of the HSBC Group corporate structures, its business, and a clear understanding of HSBC’s corporate values.
Ability to meet deadlines and manage workload.
Strong communication and inter-personal skills.
Lateral thinking/problem solving.
Regulatory experience and an understanding of risk management is an advantage, but not essential.
