Position: Manager Legal
Organization: Seven Islands Shipping Ltd.
Function: Legal & Compliance
Location: Head Office – Andheri Marol, Mumbai
Reporting Manager: Head Legal and Compliance
Primary Purpose: To manage both Litigation and Non-Litigation work for the Organization.
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
I. Litigation Management:
Handle Admiralty Suits, Civil and Criminal cases, and Arbitration.
Regular interaction with Solicitors and Advocates.
Continuous engagement on claims arising under PNI.
Vet and ensure timely filing of pleadings in Courts / Tribunals / Fora / Authorities.
Maintain expertise in Maritime Industry/Shipping laws.
Maintain and circulate MIS for legal cases in a timely manner.
II. Non-Litigation:
Draft, vet, review, and finalize various legal documents, including but not limited to:
Agreements (Charter Party, Sale & Purchase, Terms of Settlement, etc.)
Memorandum of Understanding
Lease Deeds, Trust Deeds, Letters of Intent
Service Level Contracts, IT Contracts, Marketing Contracts, Admin Contracts
Outsourcing Agreements, Non-Disclosure Agreements, Power of Attorneys
Notices and documentation for Admin / IT / HR / Marketing / Projects vendor transactions
Conduct primary Due Diligence including title searches for property transactions (sale, purchase, acquisition, or lease).
Draft property documents, sale deeds, lease agreements, leave and license agreements, MOUs, and other property documentation.
Liaise effectively with solicitors, law firms, and lawyers, ensuring timely follow-ups and issue closures.
Design, augment, and review contractual instruments and templates to support various business activities.
Research on the applicability of specific laws, circulars, notifications, policies, and case laws.
Work Relations: Internal & External:
Interface with other departments within the Company as needed.
Engage with external vendors, agencies, solicitors, and law firms.
Coordinate with External Vendors/Legal Agencies for contract execution and legal obligations.
Educational Qualifications:
A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Bachelor of Science in Law (BSc LLB) with Honours is required.
A Master of Laws (LLM) in International Maritime Law is highly preferred, as it provides specialized knowledge relevant to the maritime industry.
Experience:
A minimum of 3 years of experience in a relevant field is required.
Candidates with a background in practicing law or experience within the shipping industry or maritime law firms are preferred.
