Responsibilities
1. Assessment and Diagnosis:
- Conduct thorough assessments to determine the extent and nature of the individual's substance use disorder.
- Evaluate co-occurring mental health conditions, such as depression, anxiety, or trauma, which often accompany addiction.
2. Treatment Planning:
- Develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique needs and circumstances.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to create a holistic approach to treatment.
3. Medication Management:
- Prescribe and manage medications to address withdrawal symptoms, cravings, and co-occurring mental health issues.
- Monitor medication compliance and adjust treatment plans as needed.
4. Psychotherapy and Counseling:
- Provide individual and group therapy sessions to address the psychological aspects of addiction.
- Offer counseling and support to help patients explore the underlying causes of their addiction and develop coping strategies.
5. Dual Diagnosis Treatment:
- Address co-occurring mental health disorders through evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
- Coordinate care with other mental health professionals when necessary.
6. Education and Support:
- Educate patients and their families about addiction, its consequences, and the recovery process.
- Offer guidance on relapse prevention strategies and coping mechanisms.
7. Crisis Intervention:
- Be prepared to intervene in cases of psychiatric crises or emergencies related to substance abuse.
- Develop crisis management plans to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
8. Progress Monitoring:
- Continuously assess and track patients' progress in their recovery journey.
- Adjust treatment plans as needed based on ongoing evaluations.
9. Research and Education:
- Stay up-to-date with the latest research and evidence-based practices in addiction psychiatry.
- Participate in continuing education and training to enhance knowledge and skills.
10. Advocacy and Supportive Services:
- Advocate for the rights and needs of patients within the healthcare system.
- Connect patients with community resources and support groups to facilitate their long-term recovery.
11. Confidentiality and Ethical Practice:
- Adhere to ethical guidelines and maintain strict confidentiality when dealing with patient information.
12.Training of Paramedical Staff
Qualifications
Psychiatrist: MD (Doctor of Medicine) in Psychiatry from any recognised University/Medical Institution of India or abroad
Medical Officer: MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) degree from any recognised University/Medical Institution of India or abroad
