Legal Counsel / Commercial Contracts Lawyer, APAC Region (Remote)

BCD is looking to hire a qualified commercial contracts lawyer meeting the below specifications. The primary emphasis for this position will be supporting BCD and its affiliated companies in providing business-minded counsel in connection with regional and global commercial transactions, other legal related matters, and general legal advice. This position will support legal matters in the APAC region, work closely with legal department colleagues in the US, Europe, and the UK. The position can be virtual, hybrid, or office-based, depending on location.

As a Legal Counsel / Commercial Contracts Lawyer, you will

Provide expert and strategic legal advice to BCD’s commercial stakeholders.

Review, negotiate, and draft various commercial contracts working directly with our sales and account management teams.

Negotiate directly with clients, vendors, and suppliers.

Serve as primary legal contact for the BCD APAC region.

Review, draft and negotiate various types of commercial contracts including client, supplier, technology contracts, and other legal documents, including regional and multinational global agreements.

Provide legal and business advice to internal teams including sales, program management, procurement, finance, and supplier relations.

Advise business clients on legal and regulatory issues and risks, data privacy and security issues, approval processes, company policies and procedures, and business strategy.

Increase legal awareness of the commercial teams by communicating contractual obligations in non-legal terms through presentations/trainings and creating and distributing necessary documentation.

Handle claims and litigation; liaise with outside counsel.

Maintain and update template agreements for the APAC region.

Advise internal clients of potential legal risks and recommending strategy to manage and minimize risks from a legal point of view in close cooperation with the internal client.

Monitor the development of new laws affecting the business.

About You

Indian or other APAC country qualified lawyer with a minimum 5 years of experience in a reputable law firm and/or multi-national in-house law department.

Experience working cross regionally and with colleagues all over the world within an international enviroment (i.e.Americas and/or Europe)

Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills in English due to the contract management nature of the role.

Experience drafting and negotiating regional or multi-national commercial contracts, especially client sales or service agreements is required.

Must be a self-starter with excellent organizational and time-management skills.

Must be able to “triage” and balance many projects at once.

Must have a customer-service oriented approach to practicing law with an eye towards practical application.

Must be detail-oriented and a skilled draftsperson.

Ability to interact with the company's leadership, proposing practical and creative solutions to complex business issues and providing pragmatic risk assessments.

Must be willing and able to work a US-based schedule several days per week (for example, working 2-3 days per week in the evenings).

Ability to work collaboratively across multiple functions, organizations and with a diverse group of colleagues at all levels.

Must have a good sense of humor and be a team-player who will thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, and collegial atmosphere.

Experience in travel industry preferred, but not essential.

Understanding of basic data privacy helpful.
